Let’s felt together a stunning Milkweed sculpture! During these two live and interactive sessions you will receive step by step assistance by me on how to create
this object. We will start to make the sculpture on Friday and continue making it on Saturday, so we will have two times 5 hours to work on it.

I recommend this course for advanced feltmakers.

What will you learn?

Besides the basics You will learn three special techniques during this workshop:

  • Creating pleat from Pongé silk, which you can later apply to wearable and non-wearable items, like dresses, accessories and sculptures.

  • Joining three hollow shapes together.

  • Filling plastic granules into the sculpture and roll with it.

  • There will also be talk of using and blendig colors, and adding Chiffon silk as a decoration and also about shaping the sculpture.

How much does it cost and what is in the price?

The price of the workshop is 150 EUR,
which covers the followings:

  • Online felting live workshop in two sessions on the 26th and 27th (Friday and Saturday) of February from 5pm to 10pm (CET) in English. (If you live in a different timezone and need help converting your time follow this link)

List of Materials and Tools

  • Fine Australian Merino Wool in Roving (Wool top), (Micron 16-19) a total of about 200 grams. The total weight of my Sculpture without the plastic granules is 120 g.

  • Pongé Silk 05 to make the pleat, 130 cm long and 17 cm wide.( 52 inches long and 6,7 inches wide)

  • Chiffon Silk 3,5 is not obligatory, as the object can be made without it, just in case you would like to decorate the outer shells with it. You could use two different shades, each of them should be around 20 x 35 cm ( 8 x 14 inches)

  • Plastic granules must be hard plastic. It’s shape does not matter, it can be square or round. If you type it in Google you will find a lot. Here’s an example:

    https://www.google.com/search?q=plastic+granules+US&rlz=1C1SQJL_huHU932HU932&sxsrf=ALeKk00dN-7az6rLCDcr_W_OeqRYNEzlSA:1613829444799&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiI0qOWz_juAhVRVhoKHc3TB2cQ_AUoAXoECAEQAw&biw=1280&bih=578#imgrc=FzU70ysKE8IVLM

The point is to have it small, the diameter of the grain is about 3-4 mm. You will need around half a cup, but to be sure you have a 2 dl cup full with it. Polystyrene beads are not good, don’t take it!

It’s best to buy white or transparent, sure not to let go of its color.

  • (Don’t buy Polystyrene beads, it’s not good, it’s too soft. Buy hard plastic granules!  Type  in the Google search plastic granules!)
  • To fill it in you need a funnel and a small measuring cup.

  • Cellophane, this is very important! Plastic wrap, cling film, shrink wrap, Saran wrap, cling wrap or food wrap is a thin plastic film typically used for sealing food items in containers to keep them fresh over a longer period of time. That’s what we need.

  • Foam tube for rolling

  • IKEA mat Variera (with dots) it’s not an obligation, but might be practical to work on

  • Bowl for water

  • Hand soap

  • Towel for hand wiping

  • Sharpe Scissors in different sizes

  • Ruler

  • Plier

  • Permanent marker

  • Bubble Wrap for the Templates, 35 x 50 cm (14 x 20 inches)

  • Bubble Wrap for rubbing, 25 x 30 cm  (10 x 12 inches)

  • Bubble Wrap for rolling the silk prefelt, 40 x 210 cm (16 x 83 inches)

  • Synthetic Kitchen Cloth to absorb the Water

  • A Mesh for covering the Sculpture during the massage,  40 x 40 cm  (16 x 16 inches)

  • A Piece of Cotton Cloth for rolling (e.g. an old piece of Sheet),  40 x 60 cm  (16 x 24 inches)

  • Wooden stick to get into the sculpture, a pencil will also do.
